As always, Sunday will mark the official start of the Kosciusko County Community Fair with a parade and free admission.
This year’s fair theme is “Community Get Together: Meet Me at the Fair” and it is expected to bring the usual array of 4-H project displays and competitions as well as entertainment and, of course, the ever popular midway.
Sunday’s parade steps off at 4 p.m. from the Jefferson Street viaduct on Winona Avenue. It will travel west on Winona and veer onto Smith Street where it will continue to the west gate of the fairgrounds and disperse on the grounds.
At 6 p.m. Monday, the midway opens with a variety of amusements provided by North American Midway Entertainment. Monday is also when world-class Broken Horn Rodeo will perform in the grandstands. Gates open at 6 p.m. for the 7:30 p.m. event which features “some of the most talented cowboys and best livestock in the Midwest.”
Tuesday is Kiddies Day where rides will open at 2 p.m. and cost just $1 each all day until closing. Fun for all ages on Tuesday will be the FWF Wrestling event in the grandstands. The FWF began in 2001 as a small family-friendly indy wrestling promotion based in Wilmington, Del.
Wednesday’s grandstand event will have rising country musician Levi Riggs taking the stage at 7:30 p.m. Riggs has opened for Travis Tritt and The Band Perry and is known for “I’m Good” and “My Best Friend’s A Girl.” Grandstand gates open at 6 p.m. Wednesday, which is also Senior Citizens day offering just $1 general admission to the fair for everyone aged 65 years and older.
KOI drag races will occupy the grandstands on Thursday with the gates opening at 6 p.m. and the races getting underway at 7:30 p.m.
The always popular demolition derby is slated for Friday night. This will be the second year for the Shaggy Memorial Demolition Derby. Gates open at 4 p.m. with the derby to start at 7:30 p.m.
Saturday, July 12, will round out the grandstand events for the week with the truck and tractor pulls featuring souped up semi trucks. The Show and Shine will be part of Saturday’s attractions featuring shined up big trucks ready to be admired by attendees. After dark, a parade of lights and a steam engine spark show will light the night.
Regular pricing for fair admission is $5 for adults and $3 for children and seniors. For more information, contact the fair office at 574-269-1823.
