
UPDATE: A Warsaw man escaped only with an arm injury after he pulled into the path of a semi on North Detroit Street Thursday afternoon.
Joseph F. Courtois, 25, Warsaw, said he was waiting to turn southbound on Detroit Street from Arby’s and observed a truck with a box trailer approaching but slowing to make a right turn into the Arby’s lot. Courtois did not see the approaching semi in the second northbound lane and pulled into its path.
The semi, driven by 22-year-old Bradley J. Jackson of Milford, was hauling 80,000 pounds of limestone. Jackson braked, but was not able to avoid the collision.
Courtois had to be extricated from his vehicle by firefighters of the Warsaw-Wayne Township Fire Territory. He was then transported by Multi-Township EMS to Kosciusko Community Hospital where he was treated and released. Jackson was uninjured.
The accident happened at 2:42 p.m. and virtually closed down the northbound lanes of North Detroit Street for about an hour. Southbound traffic was reduced to one lane.
Damages were estimated at up to $50,000.
BREAKING: Emergency personnel were called to an accident in front of Arby’s on Detroit Street in Warsaw.
According to witnesses at the scene, the male driver of a white Altima pulled out from the Arby’s parking lot to travel south on Detroit Street. The car pulled into the path of a semi and was struck in the driver’s side. The driver of the car sustained unknown injuries and was transported to the hospital by Multi-Township EMS.
The northbound lanes of SR 15 are closed while the accident is investigated and the scene cleared.
Officers from the Warsaw Police and Kosciusko County Sheriff’s department and Indiana State Police were on scene with firefighters of Warsaw-Wayne Township Fire Department and Multi-Township EMS.
