Viola M. SchiniViola Martha Schini, 100, formerly of Bremen, died Thursday, Dec. 18, 2014.

She had spent the last six years as a resident of Miller’s Merry Manor in Wakarusa, in assisted living and the nursing facility.

She was born on Feb. 22, 1914, to Joe and Mary (Beutel) Heuberger, in Eureka, Ill. In 1921, the Heuberger family moved to a farm west of Bremen, where “Vi” grew up with her four siblings.

Schini attended Bremen Public Schools and was later a housekeeper for the Mutschler family in Nappanee.

On Sep. 26, 1935 Viola married Daniel Schini, who passed away on Nov. 20, 1995, after 60 years of marriage. After their honeymoon to Washington D.C., Viola became a farmer’s wife and homemaker.

This consisted of raising five children, gardening, butchering, canning, doing tons of laundry (wringer, washer, and clothes line,) handling her fresh eggs and whole milk sales, keeping a clean home, and helping her husband with farm chores.

Schini was a member of the Bremen Bible Church; she held her church, and the many Christian friends she had there, very close to her heart. She also took pride in her Pet & Hobby Club work with the Farm Bureau, along with quilting and embroidering.

Surviving are one daughter, Marlene (Ben) Jagla of South Bend; two sons, Norman (Marty) Schini of Bremen and John (Jan) Schini of South Bend; two son-in-laws, Mike (Lorene) Hardy of Vicksburg, Mich., and Earl (Carol) Cooper of Indianapolis; twelve grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Viola was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Daniel; two daughters, Lorene Hardy and Carol Cooper, two great granddaughters, Miranda Clark and Dorian Schini; three sisters, Lydia Heuberger, Emma Unsicker, and Elsie berg; and one brother, Dale Heuberger.
