Anna L. McDowell, 91, of Syracuse, passed away on Monday Dec. 8, 2014, at her home.

She was born Jan. 27, 1923, in Nappanee, to Jesse and Cora Stackman. On Jan. 8, 1973, in Elkhart, she married William S. McDowell.

Anna was in the US Naval Reserves from 1943 – 1944. She enjoyed reading and playing cards. She was known for her musical talent and was an instructor and performer throughout the Midwest. Anna retired from McDowell Enterprises in Elkhart as an office manager in 1980 after 8 years of service. After her retirement, she and Bill moved from Elkhart to Houghton Lake. In 2007, they moved from Houghton Lake to Syracuse.

He survives along with three stepchildren: William A. (Louise) McDowell, Elkhart; Kathleen (Roger) Cassube, Saline, Mich.; Rebecca (Gary) Russell, Richardson, Texas; three grandchildren: Sonya (Jack) Wells, Stephanie (Rick) Arnett, Stephen Christopher (Melissa) Crow; seven great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; seven step-great-grandchildren; four step-great-great grandchildren; and a son-in-law: Stephen Crow, Syracuse.

She was preceded in death by a daughter: Linda Crow; and a sister: Arlene Stouder.

Cremation will take place and a private family service will be held at Rice Cemetery.  Walley-Mills-Zimmerman Funeral Home is entrusted with arrangements.
