Joe Conrad, 88, North Manchester, passed away at 1:31 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2014, in Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne.

He was born May 4, 1926, in Wabash County, to Lloyd and Eva (Unger) Conrad. He graduated in 1944 from Laketon High School, Laketon, and served in the US Marines 1952-1954. On Aug. 19, 1955, he married Madeline (Bush) Ulrey. She died May 23, 1996.

He was co-owner of Manchester Lanes 1957-1974 and an independent truck driver 1974-1997 for Parkan, Piper Trucking, Peerless Racing and Delco Remy. He retired in 1997. During his driving career he hauled the cars of Paul Newman, Walter Peyton, Jack Baldwin, Scott Sharp and Scott Goodyear. He was a member of First Brethren Church, North Manchester; American Legion Post 286; Moose Lodge and Deming Lodge #88, F&AM, North Manchester; and Shriners, Fort Wayne.

He is survived by one son: Barry (Vikki) Conrad, Marion; two daughters: Sally (Ralph ‘Sonny’) James, North Manchester; and Sara (Richard) Whitinger, Warsaw; six grandchildren: Sonya James, Heather Schannep, Anthony Sanson, Wendy Metzger, Natalie Grizzle and Kayla Jo Correll; and four great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one sister: Ethel Mae Butterbaugh.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 7, at McKee Mortuary, 1401 SR 114 W., North Manchester. Masonic Service will be at 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 7, at McKee Mortuary. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 8, at McKee Mortuary, 1401 SR 114 W., North Manchester. Pastor J. P. Freeman will officiate. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Servia.
