The roster for the Indiana All-Star team, which will compete against athletes from Ohio and Michigan, has a strong local flavor.

The Warsaw duo of Gabe Furnivall and Seth Fouts are both on the Indiana squad. Furnivall is slated to compete in the 400 and the 4 X 400 relay at the meet, while Fouts will participate in the shot put.

Furnivall placed eighth in the 4 X 100 relay with fellow seniors Tristan McClone, Tanner Balazs and Michael Miller, ninth in the 4 X 400 relay with seniors Ryan and Chad Goon and sophomore Landan Perry and 16th in the 400 at the IHSAA State Finals last Saturday in Bloomington. The two-sport star, who plans to play football at Saint Joseph’s College, helped the Tigers win conference, sectional and regional championships this spring.

Fouts claimed the shot put championship at the Goshen Relays with a record-setting throw and was first in his specialty at the Northern Lakes Conference Meet. The University of Kentucky recruit, who placed fifth in the shot put at the State Finals in 2013, did not compete in the state tournament series this season due to a violation of the school’s athletic code.

Scott Lancaster, the head boys and girls track coach at Wawasee High School, is a member of the coaching staff for the Indiana team.

Cameron Kitson of Fairfield is scheduled to compete in the 110 high hurdles. Kitson won a regional championship in the event and placed 13th at the State Finals.

Also listed on the Indiana boys team roster are Thomas Gales of Penn (800), Anthony Didion of LaPorte (1,600), Trey Kennedy of Westview (pole vault) and Shaq Vann of South Bend Adams (200, 4 X 200). Gales placed eighth in the 800 at State, while Kennedy was fifth in the pole vault, Didion second in the 1,600 and Vann third in the 200.

The Indiana girls roster includes Leah Heckaman of Culver Academies for the shot put and the discus events. Heckaman placed fourth in the shot put and fifth in the discus at the State Finals June 6.

The Midwest Meet of Champions features the top senior performers from Indiana, Ohio and Michigan. The event is Saturday at Denison University and Granville High School in Granville, Ohio.
