Roger Wise, 77, Plymouth, Ind., passed away, Saturday, Nov. 29, 2014, at Woodlawn Hospital, in Rochester.

He was born on Dec. 22, 1936, in Plymouth, Indiana, to Walter A. and Dulcie (Hewitt) Wise. Roger and Mary Louise Cobb Surber were married in 1967. He was a dedicated employee of the US Postal Service from 1958 until his retirement in 1993.

Survivors include daughters: Tonya Wise, Bremen, Ind., and Erika Wise, Texas; stepdaughters: Patricia Tolliver, Plymouth, and Carol (Ron) Chileen, Leiters Ford, Ind.; stepson: William Surber, Plymouth; grandchildren, Anthony Eisemann, Illinois, John (Joslyn) Eisemann, Plymouth, Lauren Surber, Virginia, and Josephine Wise, Oklahoma; great-grandchildren: Marion, Illinois, Rylee and Reed, Plymouth, and Christine, Oklahoma; as well as a brother: Hewitt, Wisconsin.

He was preceded in death by his wife; a stepson: John Surber; his parents; and a brother: Ronald Wise.

After his service in the US Army, from 1955-58, Roger became active in the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6919 of Culver, Ind. He held numerous offices some of which were; Department of Indiana Aid to Camp; Department of Indiana Chief of Staff; District 3 Commander; Veterans Service Officer on a local level for many; and most recently resigned his duties as Quartermaster for District 3. He was a member of the Monterey American Legion Post 399 and also was an integral member of the Marshall County Election board for many years.

Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 4 at Van Gilder Funeral Home, Plymouth. Services with military honors will follow at Van Gilder Funeral Home.
