At the conclusion of this week’s meeting of the Tippecanoe Valley School Corporation’s Board of School Trustees, a presentation was given in honor of retiring Assistant Superintendent Dr. Daniel V. Kramer and his 41 years in education, 35 of those as an administrator for the Tippecanoe Valley School Corporation.
Kramer taught for five years as a fifth and sixth grade teacher in the Lafayette area and worked one year in the educational placement office at Purdue University. Following that, he served as principal of Akron Elementary for 9 years and principal of Mentone Elementary for 4 years before moving to the central office where he would serve as assistant superintendent for 17 years and superintendent for 5 years.
The most rewarding aspects of my career come from being afforded the opportunity to serve others, both students and adults,” stated Kramer. “In particular, as a teacher and a principal, I had daily opportunities to work directly with young people or parents and was often in a position where I could convey a genuine sense of caring for them as individuals. It is especially rewarding to meet a former student or parent who recalls and shares positive school experiences. Whether it was with students, staff, parents or colleagues, all the direct interactions I have had with people as individuals is what has led to the most satisfying experiences for me.”
When asked what he will miss most about working with Tippecanoe Valley School Corporation, Kramer noted that he would miss working with staff members throughout the school corporation but noted that he was looking forward to spending time with his family.
“I have been very fortunate and blessed to be part of Tippecanoe Valley for the past 35 school years,” stated Kramer. “It has been a wonderful honor to serve the Tippecanoe Valley community and work with hundreds of young people during that period. I have been privileged to work with many, many caring and dedicated individuals whose priority has always been to meet the needs of our young people and to work toward the betterment of our school corporation. I will always wish for the very best for our school corporation and everyone associated with it. I am truly grateful for having the opportunity to serve the vast majority of my career in Tippecanoe Valley.”
Dr. Kramer will conclude his career at Tippecanoe Valley on June 30. A retirement open house in honor of Dr. Kramer will be held at Mentone Elementary School from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, June 29.
