1463289_profile_picJohn H. Bever, 96, of rural Lagro, passed away at 2:30 a.m., Sunday, Nov. 23, 2014, at his home.

He was born May 27, 1918, in Wabash, to James and Nellie (Ply) Bever. John was a 1936 graduate of Linlawn High School. He married Mary ‘Peggy’ Tyner in Peru, on Nov. 4, 1944.

He retired from the Indiana Water Corporation in 1977 after 17 years and also farmed all his life. He was a member of the St. Patricks Catholic Church in Lagro. John enjoyed driving his antique tractors in parades, and enjoyed watching his grandson race motorcycles.

He is survived by his wife, Mary “Peggy” Bever of Lagro; four children: Elizabeth A. (Donald) Baker, Roann; Doris Jean (Gary) Ward, Lucinda (Steve) Baker and Jack A. (Mary Ann) Bever, all of Lagro; 12 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and two brothers: Frank (Olive) Bever, North Manchester; Tom (Emma) Bever, Wabash.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter: Patsy Carey; three brothers: Robert, Ralph and James Bever; and his sister: Mary Jane Knotts.

Visitation will be from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 28, at Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service, 1241 Manchester Avenue, Wabash. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 28, 2014, at the funeral home with Pastor Herbert Hughs officiating. Burial will be in St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery, Lagro.
