Rugs, Gerald obit photo0001Gerald Anthony Rugs, 83, of Warsaw, passed away at 4:50 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 23, 2014, at Kosciusko Community Hospital of Warsaw.

He was born on December 14, 1930 in Chicago, Ill., to Anthony Rugs and Celia Victoria (Staneck) Rugs.

Rugs was married in April 1956 to Doris (Spears) Rugs, who survives in Warsaw.

He was a resident of Kosciusko County, since 1963 where he worked for 23 years for R.R. Donnelley & Sons of Warsaw retiring in 1992 as a customer service representative. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War.

Rugs taught chess at the Bakers Youth Club in Warsaw and he himself was an avid chess player having once played against Bobby Fisher. He was also an avid golfer.

Additional survivors include: three daughters: Theresa (Jack) Wilhite, Warsaw, Deborah Rugs (Bruce Wertheimer) Lutz, Fla., and Kathleen (Lyle) Meeker, Warsaw; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren

He was preceded in death by his parents and four sisters.

Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 25, at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, 225 Argonne Road, Warsaw.

Funeral service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 26, at the funeral home, officiated by Pastor Brandon Wilhite.
