Nelson StutsmanNelson R. Stutsman Sr., 82, Elkhart, died 8:10 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 20, 2014, at IU Health Goshen Hospital.

He was born March 6, 1932 in Goshen to Ralph & May (Miller) Stutsman.

He married Barbara (Cooke) Stutsman on Jan. 8, 1983. She survives.

Nelson was a farmer and worked for Goshen Rubber for many years. He served 31 years with the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department. He graduated from Concord High School in 1950, was a 32nd degree Mason and was a member of the West Goshen Church of the Brethren.

Additional survivors include his one daughter, Christine (LeRoy) Mevis, Nappanee; one son, Kevin R. (Jill) Stutsman, Nappanee; step-son Gerrod (Christine) Hampel, Elkhart; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchidren; two brothers, David (Kathryn) Stutsman, and Thomas (Sharon) Stutsman, both of Goshen; one sister, Rachel (Robert) Barden

He was preceded in death by a son, Nelson Stutsman Jr., step-daughter, Ginger Gravelle and brothers, Benjamin, Daniel, Samuel and Joseph Stutsman.

Visitation will be 2-5 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 23, at Rieth-Rohrer-Ehret Funeral Home, 311 S. Main St., Goshen, and one hour prior to the 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 24, at West Goshen Church of the Brethren, 1200 Berkey Ave., Goshen.

Pastor Norm Replogle will officiate and burial will follow at West Goshen Cemetery.
