Alvin FreemanAlvin Frederick Freeman, 84, of rural Columbia City, died Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2014 at his lake home.

He was born Jan. 29, 1930, in Kokomo, to Frederick E. and Eva A. (Phelps) Freeman. He attended Larwill High School.

On May 7, 1951 he was inducted in the United States Army, earning two Bronze Stars during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged April 18, 1953.

He married D. Eloise Jones on June 27, 1954. She survives.

They made their home in Columbia City until 1981 when they moved to their farm in Columbia Township.

A Dana retiree with 36 years of service, he also drove truck. He was a member of Columbia City Lodge No. 189 Free & Accepted Masons, American Legion and V.F.W. Post No. 5582.

Additional survivors include: three daughters, Susan (Michael) Lawless of Fort Wayne, Sharon (Randy) Zumbrun, and Sheila Freeman, all of Columbia City; one son, Scott (Rhonda) Freeman, Columbia City; six grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; two brothers, Gene Freeman of Kokomo and Jim Freeman of Albion Mich.; and three sisters, Barbara Holle of Etna Green, Judy Owens of Albion and Mary Stouder of Etna Green.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Martha Jones and Dora McKenna.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City. The funeral service will begin with the Masonic Service at 2 p.m. Saturday at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City.

The burial will be in South Park Annex Cemetery with military honors presented by Whitley County Korean War Veterans Honor Guard.

Preferred memorials are to Whitley County Council on Aging.
