Verlin Stayer, 84, of Warsaw, passed away Saturday, Nov. 15, 2014, in his residence.
He was born Aug. 22, 1930, in Sidney, to Ernest and Lovell (Druley) Stayer. He was a lifetime resident of Kosciusko County. He faithfully served his Country in the United Sates Navy during the Korean Conflict. On Feb. 26, 1978, in Warsaw he was united in marriage to Janice Sievers.
The Carpenter’s Union, South Bend, Da-Lite Screen, Explorer Van, Coachman, Inc. and Schrader’s Automotive formerly employed him. He was a member of the Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church, Warsaw, Pierceton American Legion Post #258, Warsaw Masonic Lodge #73, and Gilliam Bowling Lanes Leagues where he also coached Junior Bowling.
Survivors include his wife: Janice Stayer, Warsaw; daughters: Linda (Jerry) Bentele, Leesburg; Cheryl (Greg) Gearhart, Fulton; Monda (Mark) Pherigo, Pierceton; brothers: Gerald (Phyllis) Stayer, North Manchester; Frank (Imogene) Stayer, Kimmel; and Everett (Dorothy) Stayer, Huntington; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sisters and two brothers.
Visitation is scheduled from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 18, in McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw. Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 19, in the funeral chapel. Pastors Bob and Becky Conelley will officiate the services. Interment will be in Hillcrest Cemetery, Pierceton, with military honors rendered by the Pierceton American Legion Post #258.
