SloanRoger C. Sloan Sr., 82, of Warsaw, passed away at 7:50 a.m. Friday, Nov. 14, 2014, in his residence.

On Feb. 18, 1932, he was born in Mouthcard, Pike County, Ky., to Emzy and Clementine (Rooney) Sloan. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict from 1951- 1954 then he became a coal miner, retiring in 1970. He was united in marriage to Eunice Blankenship on March 1, 1954, in Grundy, Va., who survives.

He was a member of New Hope Freewill Baptist Church, Warsaw. Roger enjoyed his family, especially his grandchildren and was loved by all. He never knew a stranger and was always willing to help anybody in need.

He is survived by his wife; his son: Roger (Lana) Sloan Jr., Warsaw; his daughter: Sue Hickman, Warsaw; his sister: Mildred Belcher, Conway, Va.; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers; and five sisters.

Visitation will be held from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 16, at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 17, in the funeral home with Pastor David Cripe officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw.

The family requests memorial contributions be given to the Roger Sloan family to help defray costs for Cassie Dillinger’s kidney transplant. Donations may be given c/o Sue Hickman.
