Julia Fern HurfordJulia Fern Hurford, 83, of Plymouth, passed away at 1:20 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2014, following an illness.

Born in Plymouth on March 1, 1931, Julia was the daughter of Karl ‘Bill’ Emmons and Julia (Taylor) Emmons. She was a graduate of LaPaz High School. On Oct. 14, 1950, in Plymouth, Julia married Frank W. Hurford and the couple would make Plymouth their home. Frank would precede Julia in death on April 9, 1997.

Julia worked as a cook at the Shady Rest Home for 10 years. She was a member of the Tyner United Methodist Church, Tyner Rebekah Lodge #865 and the Lakeville Eastern Star.

Julia is survived by her children: Douglas (Judy) Hurford, Plymouth; Steven (LeeAnn) Hurford, Helena, Mont.; Debra (Chris) Lozier, Warsaw; Frank E. Hurford, Plymouth; Anthony Hurford, Helena; Jack (Jody) Hurford, Walkerton; 13 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild; siblings; Karl ‘Sonny’ (MaryAnn) Emmons, LaPaz; Roger Emmons, LaPaz; Judy Vegar, Plymouth; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sister: Shirley Albert.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 8, in the Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan St., Plymouth, and from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 9, at Tyner United Methodist Church, 4503 French St., Tyner. Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 9, at the church, with Reverend Tamara Boggs officiating. Burial will follow in the Tyner Cemetery.
