Rosa Maxine Carter, 86, passed away with family by her side at 4:01 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 2, 2014, at Miller’s Merry Manor, Plymouth.
Born in Mobile, Ala., on Jan. 10, 1928, Maxine was the daughter of Victor C. and Frances E. (Smith) Langley. On Dec. 22, 1945, in Lucedale, Miss., Maxine married William M. ‘Buck’ Carter.
The couple moved from Mississippi to Bremen in 1950. The family would move to Plymouth in 1978. She was member of the Lakeville Trinity Church – Assembly of God. Maxine loved to cook for her family and had the best memories when she was with her family and grandchildren. She enjoyed sewing, often making clothes for her grandchildren, and had quite a knick-knack collection of dolls. She was a woman of faith who shared her gifts with others and enjoyed building a church and telling people about Jesus.
She is survived by her children: Linda (Kirby) Miller, Nappanee; Carolyn (Mark) Odiorne, Hope; Rosemary (Jeff) Schmucker, Warsaw; Nancy (Ronald) Linville, Nappanee; Lisa (Albert) Skinner, Phoenix, Ariz.; Ruth (Barry) Curtis, Plainfield; Rebecca (Tony) Stiles, Plymouth; Nathan (Ginger) Carter, Elkhart; William Paul (Lynda) Carter, Brighton, Tenn.; John Carter, Larwell; and Samuel (Keri) Carter, Kendalville; 25 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; her siblings: Pat Albert, Daphne, Ala.; sisters-in-law; Karen Langley, Mobile, Ala.; and Lottie Brooks of Semmes, Ala.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband: Buck; daughter: Elaine (Randy) Garrett; son: William; grandchildren: Seth Schmucker and Michelle Garrett; great-grandson: Maximus Linville; siblings: Clyde Langley, Victor Langley, Dorothy (Ray) Duncon, Waucile Carpenter, Herbert Langley, Perry Langley and Latrell Langley.
Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 5, in the Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan St., Plymouth. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 6, in the funeral home with Pastor Barry Curtis of the Souls Harbor Assembly of God Church in Plainfield. Burial will follow in the Tippecanoe Cemetery. Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements.
