Allen Barrett

Allen Vaughn ‘Robin’ Barrett, 69, Syracuse, passed away at 5:10 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 30, 2014, at his residence.

Barrett was born on Jan. 7, 1945, to George and Dorothy (Overstreet) Barrett in Indianapolis.

Barrett graduated from Indianapolis’ North Central High School in 1963.

He joined the Navy in 1964 and was stationed in Brunswick, Maine. From there he spent time in Iceland until the end of his active duty in 1966. He remained in the Naval Reserves until 1970. Allen earned his Bachelor’s Degree from Indiana University – South Bend in 1974. He earned his master’s degree in public administration from IU in 1978.

In 1969, he married JoAnn Ganshorn of Nappanee. She survives

He lived in South Bend for 25 years, worked in public administration and later in OSHA and EPA compliance. He was an active member of First United Methodist Church and one of three founders of Michiana’s British Car Day. He was also active in South Bend/Michiana area Kiwanis clubs.

In 2004, Allen and JoAnn moved to Dewart Lake.

Additional survivors include one son, Alex Barrett, Syracuse; one daughter, Elizabeth (Spencer) Lerch, and grandson Griffin Lerch, of Indianapolis.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 12, at Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home, 950 N. Main St., Nappanee, followed by a memorial Services at 1 p.m. Rev. David Henry, Calvary Methodist Church, Syracuse will officiate. There will be a social time at the funeral home following services.

Memorial Contributions may be made to IU Goshen Hospice, Wounded Warriors, or the IU Transplant Unit at IU Medical Center, Indianapolis.
