Maxie E. Smith, 74, passed away 2:20 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 29, 2014, at Mason Health Care & Rehab, Warsaw.

He was born March 13, 1940, in Plymouth, to Sylvester Smith and Myrtle (Himes) Smith. He was honorably discharged from the US Army on July 31, 1963. He married Beverly K. Spangle on July 28, 1962. He married Diane Hepler on Sept. 14, 1990.

He was a lifetime resident of Kosciusko County. He worked as a driver for Horizon Transport retired in 2012 after 22 years. Maxie attended Clunette United Methodist Church. He loved western movies, puzzles, games and sporting events (Norte Dame fan).

He is survived by his wife: daughter: Kelly (Dan) Hale, Silver Lake; son: Jeff (Diane) Hathaway, Silver Lake; five grandchildren: Keira (Zach) Collins, Mentone;
Sierra Hale, Warsaw; Jacob Hathaway, North Manchester; Jason Hathaway, North Manchester; Danielle (James) Childress, Trenton, Ga.; four great-grandchildren;
two brothers: Steve (Linda) Smith, Sidney; Philip (Laura) Smith, Warsaw.

He is preceded in death by his parents; first wife: Beverly K. Smith; and Sister: Donna Kiser.

Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 23, at NYE Youth Cabin, Warsaw. Services will be officiated by Pastor Fannie Hale. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery, Silver Lake.
