HeadshotKathleen ‘Kate’ Mock, 87, of Syracuse, Ind., passed away at 6:45 p.m. on Monday, May 5, 2014, at Millers Merry Manor in Syracuse.

She was born Sept. 29, 1926, near Syracuse to Byron and Ethel (Wilkinson) Grubb. 

She was a lifetime Syracuse area resident, graduated in 1945 from Syracuse High School and received her Associate’s Degree from the International Business College in Fort Wayne, Ind.

She was married Sept. 9, 1945, in Milford, Ind., to Ryland R. Mock who preceded her on Sept. 17, 1986. She retired in 2007 from Key Bank (formerly State Bank of Syracuse, Ameritrust Bank and Society Bank) after 40-plus years of service.

She was a member of the North Webster Church of the Brethren. Former member of Red Hat Society in Syracuse, Hex Rural Extension Homemakers Club in Syracuse and Hi Neighbor Club.

She is survived by a son: Phillip “Phil” (Annette) Mock, Syracuse, Ind.; a daughter: LuAnn (Henry Skinner) Mock, Empire, Colo.; three grandchildren: Jon (Sarah) Mock, Justin (Jaimie) Mock and Shane (Jessica) Newman; eight great-grandchildren: Ruby, Taylor, Ava and Addison Mock; Cody, Jacob and Graiden; and Gabriel Newman; and two sisters-in-law: Cora Belle Grubb, Elkhart, Ind.; and Mary Mock, Syracuse.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son: Daniel “Diz” Mock; two grandsons: Zachery Mock and Seth Newman; a brother: Edwin Grubb; and a sister: Mary Alice Tusing.

Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday, May 8, at Owen Family Funeral Home, 1001 S. Huntington St., Syracuse. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. on Friday, May 9, in the North Webster Church of the Brethren, 7281 E. 600N., North Webster, Ind., with Pastor Robert Wyman of the church officiating. Burial will follow in the Syracuse Cemetery.
