SOUTH WHITLEY – The Whitko softball team turned the tables on Tippecanoe Valley Monday night.
The Wildcats blanked the Vikings 8-0 in a Three Rivers Conference contest.
Whitko had lost an 11-10 decision to Valley on Saturday in the Valley Tournament.
Hanna Yohe turned in an outstanding pitching performance to lead her team to the win. She allowed just two hits and walked three. Yohe also notched 15 strikeouts, just missing the school single-game record of 17.
Haley Yohe led the offense for Whitko with three hits and an RBI. Maddie Gawthrop had two hits, an RBI and four stolen bases. Riley Insley went 2-3 with three runs scored and Shelby Martin was 2-3 with two runs scored for the Wildcats.
The host Wildcats outhit the Vikings 14-2 for the win. Whitko scored four runs in the second inning to take control of the contest.
Danielle Adams and Abby Betten each had a hit for Valley.
Whitko improves to 4-11 overall and 2-1 in the TRC. The Vikings drop to 7-7 on the season.
The Wildcats host Fort Wayne Wayne Thursday at 5 p.m.
The Whitko junior varsity team lost 8-0 to Huntington North Monday. Jamie Tolson and Ashlyn Robbins each had two hits. Pitcher Tori Silveus had seven strikeouts. Whitko plays at Carroll Thursday.
