PLYMOUTH – Meghan Fretz pitched the best game of her prep career, striking out 12 and tossing a one-hitter at Plymouth in a 14-1 Wawasee softball victory Wednesday afternoon in Northern Lakes Conference play.

Fretz earned her second victory of the season, losing the no-hit bid in the fifth on a base hit by Zoe Keilman, who scored Plymouth’s run later in the inning to end the shutout bid as well.

Fretz also led the charge at the dish, picking up two hits and scoring a pair of runs. Kylee Rostochak and Danielle Gunkel both had two hits and a stolen base. Ale Brito added three runs for the Lady Warriors (8-5, 2-3 NLC).

Keilman, Plymouth’s starting pitcher, gave up just five of Wawasee’s nine hits, but walked six and fell victim to four Plymouth errors in her 3.1 innings of work.

The Wawasee JV made it nine-for-nine this year in win attempts, crushing Plymouth 12-0. Hannah Haines struck out eight in picking up her fourth shutout of the season. Leah deSomer paced the offense with a three-run homer.

Wawasee will travel to Goshen Friday afternoon for a varsity/JV matchup at Shanklin Park with the host Lady Redskins.
