Charles ‘Charlie’ F. Taylor, 86, of Goshen, Ind., and formerly of Syracuse, Ind., passed away at 2:20 p.m. on Saturday, April 26, 2014, at I.U. Goshen Hospital.
He was born Feb. 23, 1928, in Cleveland, Ohio, to Virgil J. and Florence A. (Burlingame) Taylor. He graduated in 1946 from Charles F. Brush High School in Lyndhurst, Ohio, and 1951 from Kent State in Kent, Ohio.
On June 4, 1955 in Cleveland he married Marilyn A. Windle, who survives. He lived in the Cleveland area until 1968 when he moved to Syracuse and then moved to Goshen, Ind., in 2005. He was employed at Walmart in Goshen as a greeter since 2002, was formerly employed as a Dale Carnegie Instructor, taught drivers education in Cleveland and sold insurance.
He was a member of the St. Martin de Porres Catholic Church in Syracuse where he played the organ since 1968. He was also a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus.
He is survived by his wife: Marilyn Taylor, Goshen; a daughter: Nancy (Rodney) Bell, Syracuse; two sons: David C. Taylor, South Bend, Ind.; and Paul A. (Lisa Smith) Taylor, Davenport, Fla.; and two grandchildren: Carrie Bell and Kevin Bell.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister: Estelle Young; and a brother: Virgil P. Taylor.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, May 1, at Owen Family Funeral Home, 1001 S. Huntington St., Syracuse. A funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 2, at St. Martin de Porres Catholic Church, 6943 E. Waco Dr., Syracuse, with Father Richard Hire of the church and Father Robert Lengerich of the St. Dominic Catholic Church in Bremen, Ind., officiating. Graveside services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday in the Syracuse Cemetery.
