ELKHART – The beat goes on for the Warsaw boys track team.
The Tigers continued their conference dominance Thursday night with two more victories.
Warsaw, on a windy night, took care of host Elkhart Memorial and Goshen in Northern Lakes Conference competition to remain undefeated on the season.
Coach Matt Thacker’s talented and deep squad bested the Crimson Chargers 87.5-43.5 and handled the Redskins 92.5-39.5. Goshen topped Memorial 73-59.
The usual list of suspects once again played key roles as the Tigers improved to 5-0 overall and 4-0 in the NLC on the season.
Warsaw has now won 24 straight NLC meets. The Tigers, whose last loss came to Concord early on during the 2011 season, has gone 7-0 each of the past two seasons in league action.
Warsaw had strong performances in the field events, led by senior standouts Seth Fouts and Stephen Kolbe. Fouts, who place fifth at the State Finals in 2013 in the shot put, won his specialty with a throw of 59. Kolbe cleared 6-2 to win the high jump competition.
The Tigers also got wins from Andrew Scheidt in the discus with a top effort of 144 and Rashaan Jackson, who sailed 21 feet to win the long jump event.
Senior Ellis Coon, a Tulsa recruit for his distance prowess, won the 3,200 in a time of 10:11.22.
Mike Miller, a huge addition to the team this spring, won the 200 in a time of 22.84.
The Tigers also continued their dominating display in relay events, going 3-for-3 once again.
The foursome of Ismael Calderon, Nick Bergen, Daniel Messenger and Tyler Houvener won the 4 X 800 with a top time of 8:39.56. The team of Tanner Balazs, Tristan McClone, Gabe Furnivall and Miller won the 4 X 100 in 43.58. The quartet of Chad Goon, Ryan Goon, Landon Perry and Tyler Houvener won the 4 X 400 in 3:32.62.
Dylan Campbell placed second in both hurdles races for Warsaw. Other second-place finishes went to McClone in the 100, Chad Goon in the 400, Furnivall in the 800, Coon in the 1,600 and Fouts in the discus.
Warsaw also got third-place efforts from Caleb Klusman in the 300 hurdles, Riley Rhoades in the 400, Ryan Goon in the 200 and Ben Plummer in the shot put.
The Tigers return to action Saturday in the Goshen Relays. Field events begin at 9 a.m. with track trials at 10 a.m. and finals starting at noon.
Warsaw will compete at Wawasee, along with Concord, in another NLC triangular next Thursday (May 1). The Tigers then wrap up the NLC regular season at Northridge on May 7.
The Tigers, who won NLC, sectional and regional championships last season, will host the NLC Meet on May 13.
