WARSAW – The Warsaw girls tennis team dropped a 3-2 final to a very strong Fairfield team Thursday.

The Falcons used a singles sweep to claim the non-conference match.

Warsaw coach Rick Orban, knowing that the Falcons were loaded in the singles positions, completely changed his lineup. Orban changed all five spots from Wednesday’s 4-1 conference loss at Northridge, including inserting Anna Hall and Athena Schlitt into singles play.

The Tigers won both doubles matches Thursday.

Seniors Jacqueline Sasso and Sarah Boyle, who normally play the top two singles spots for the Tigers, combined to win 6-4, 6-2 at No. 1 doubles over Fairfield.

The duo of Abbi Baum and Camille Kerlin won 6-3, 6-7 (1-7), 6-3 at No. 2 doubles for the hosts.

Standout Emily Mast led the way to victory for Fairfield. She defeated Rachel Alexander 6-0, 6-0. For Alexander, who normally plays No. 3 singles for the Tigers, it was her first loss in four dual matches this season.

Lauren Streit and Megan Stutzman also posted straight set singles wins for the Falcons. Streit topped Anna Hall 6-2, 6-0 at No. 2 and Stutzman defeated Athena Schlitt 6-3, 6-0 at No. 3.

Fairfield won the junior varsity competition by a 6-4 final.

Winners for Warsaw in JV play were Rosie Fleming and Shelby Roberts in singles action and the doubles teams of Mallory Bartel and Greer Smith and Mattie Doran and Jenn Katris.

Warsaw is now 1-3 on the season, while Fairfield stands at 3-1.

The Tigers begin a busy week by playing at Fort Wayne Carroll on Monday. Warsaw then plays at NLC foe Elkhart Memorial on Tuesday before hosting league and county rival Wawasee on Thursday and Fort Wayne Concordia on Friday.

Fairfield hosts NorthWood today.
