Jimmy L. Gebert, 80, of Winona Lake, Ind., passed away at 7:20 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2014, in his residence.
He was born on April 29, 1934, to Orville and Gladys (Polk) Gebert in Pierceton, Ind. He was a graduate of Pierceton High School and attended Manchester Collage. He was united in marriage to Wilma Jane (Norris) Gebert on Aug. 8, 1954, in South Whitley, Ind., at the South Whitley Church of Brethren.
Jimmy served in the United States Army from November 1953 to November 1955 and was stationed at Camp Presidio in San Francisco, Calif., as a military policeman. He worked for Pierceton Trucking building US 30 and Interstate 70; He was the owner and operator of W&W Shoe Village, Warsaw for 30 years, and also had a several booths at the Shipshewana Flea Market for 25 years.
He was a member of the Pierceton Menzie-Reece American Legion Post # 258 and the North Winona Church of Brethren.
He is survived by his wife: Jane Gebert, Winona Lake; a daughter: Sue (Todd) Fiedeke, Syracuse, Ind.; a son: Ed (Carol) Gebert, Celina Ohio; sisters: Rebecca ( Doug) Gregory, Fort Wayne, Ind.; Carolyn (Robert) Bethea, Edmond Okla.; grandchildren: Devin, Noah, Aubrey Gebert, Taylor and Hunter Fiedeke; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents: a sister: Connie Gebert; and a grandson: Payton Gebert.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 27, at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Pierceton. Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 27, at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Pierceton with Chaplain Bryan Benjamin officiating.
Burial will follow after the service in Hillcrest Cemetery, Pierceton, with military honors by the Pierceton American Legion and the Military Funeral Honors Guard.
