Creating a Vision Board Workshop

Adults are invited to a workshop conducted by Angie Hernandez, certified hypnotherapist, on Tuesday, April 29. The Syracuse Library is hosting the free workshop in the meeting room from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Hernandez will explain this powerful method while everyone glues and pastes a positive visual image. Supplies are provided. Participants are welcome to bring magazines that can be cut apart. Please call the library for information at 574-457-3022.

Unique Rebound Documents Are on Display

Nation Preservation Week is a highlight on the efforts to maintain the presence of artifacts from bygone eras. During the last week in April the library wants to bring attention to the preservation work that takes place in the library and the resource of the cemetery.

The library has a new display case with 22 preserved books of local interest. Individuals can view a number of ledgers, atlases, records and books from the early 19th through early 20th centuries that are original documents from the local area. The materials are of interest to historians and genealogists along with anyone wanting more information about Syracuse.

The material previously was not available to the public because of their fragile condition. The material was put through a preservation process at a local bindery and can be read at the library. The Syracuse Library received generous grants from the following organizations in order to complete this project: Ken and Lela Harkless Foundation, Kosciusko County Community Foundation, Bertsch Family Foundation, Hand Family Foundation, and Kosciusko County Community Foundation REMC Round Up Funds.

Discover the Syracuse Cemetery

Booklets with information about some of the graves and observations about the gravestones are available at the Syracuse Library and the Syracuse-Wawasee Historical Museum. Booklets will be available through May 13, and can be presented at either venue for a completion reward. The self guided tour is better when walked but many landmarks can be seen from a car.
