Robert ‘Bob’ Earl Rohlfing, 85, of Syracuse, Indiana passed away at Sycamore Village in Fort Wayne, Ind., at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 18, 2014.
He was born on June 2, 1929, in Dunkirk, Ind., to Robert Gephart Rohlfing and Hazel Gephart (Garringer) Rohlfing. In 1950 he was married to Wanda Agatha (Welch) Rohlfing who passed away in June 2005.
Bob was a 1947 graduate of Dunkirk High School, afterwards he enlisted in the U.S. Army from 1950 until his honorable discharge in 1952. He studied at Purdue University graduating in 1956 with a degree in mechanical engineering. After graduation in 1956, he was employed with General Motors in Anderson, Ind., working there until his retirement in 1994. After retirement he moved to Tippecanoe Lake and has been a resident of Kosciusko County, Indiana for the past 20 years. Bob was a lead singer and saxophone player in his own band, played bridge, and was actively involved in the American Legion post #253 in North Webster, Indiana.
He will be lovingly remembered by his son: Robert ‘Bob’ Rohlfing, Fort Wayne, Ind.; daughter: Deborah (Steve) Schmidt, Boca Raton, Fla.; six grandchildren:Carissa Bayer, Stephanie Montini, Katie Schmidt, Amber Dippon, Ashley and Brock Rohlfing; Six great-grandchildren: Brady Stout, Ciara Stout, Hunter Dippon, Siena and Jack Bayer, Luca Montini.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and his daughter-in-law: Cindy,
Visitation will be held from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 21, at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, 225 Argonne Rd., Warsaw. A graveside service with military rites conducted by the North Webster American Legion Post #253 at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, September 22, 2014 at Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw, Indiana and officiated by Pastor Todd Gerst of Warsaw Community Church. Those wishing to attend the graveside, the procession will leave the funeral home parking lot at 10:50 a.m.
