Vera Shavers, 76, of Winona Lake, Ind., passed away at 6:57 p.m. Sunday Sept. 14, 2014, in her residence.
On Sept. 5, 1938, she was born in Karlsruhe, Germany to Herbert Bandelier and Elizabeth (Stingel) Bandelier. She married Ron Shavers on Aug. 8, 1980, who survives.
Vera worked as an accountant at Ashland Chemical and Hewlett Parkard both of Chicago, Ill., retiring in 2001. She has resided in Kosciusko County since 2001. She was a member of the Kosciusko County Democratic Party. Vera enjoyed needle point and cross stitching. In her youth she helped the U.S. Military with translations after World War II.
She is survived by her husband; two sons: Mario (Sarah) Eberle, Washington D.C.; Ron Shavers Jr., Albany N.Y.; four grandchildren: Gabriella, Massimo, Rhianna and Veronica.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter: Milana Shavers; one brother: Hans; and one sister: Margaret Nelson.
A memorial service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 18, at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, 225 Argonne Road, Warsaw, Ind., with Reverend Curtis Love and Reverend Robert Shavers officiating.
