799576Shirley J. Girten, 75, of Plymouth, Ind., passed away at 7:55 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 14, 2014, at Miller’s Merry Manor, in Plymouth.

Shirley was born on July 21, 1939, in Youngstown, Ohio, to Morgan and Margaret Davis. The family moved to California and she came to Plymouth in 1966. Shirley married Thomas Girten on Oct. 7, 1981. He preceded her in death.

Shirley worked as a Nurse’s Aid at Miller’s Merry Manor, when it first opened, and remained an employee for 12 years. She retired from a Home Care and Equipment company, in Plymouth. Shirley and Tom had a great love for dogs, from their large Great Danes to their small English Bulldogs.

She is survived by her sons: Gary Sauerwein, Indiana; Larry Sauerwein, Ohio; her two brothers: Bill (Joy) Davis, Redondo, Calif.; Richard (Val) Davis, Lake Sherwood, Calif.; her very close friends: Pete and Lori Sechrist, Plymouth; and three granddaughters: Alison, Andrea and Alisha.

Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 16 and from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 17, at Van Gilder Funeral Home, 300 W. Madison St., Plymouth. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 17, at the funeral home with Chaplain Alex Jack officiating. Burial will take place in New Oak Hill Cemetery in Plymouth.
