A trio of strong singles performances paced Triton past Tippecanoe Valley 5-0 in girls’ tennis action Wednesday.Kaelyn Mason led the way for the Trojans with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Hanna Dalrymple at No. 1.
Shayla May and Kylie Mason each posted wins in singles play for Triton. May defeated Brittany Shafer 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2 and Mason completed the singles sweep by topping Morgan Brazo 6-0, 6-2 at No. 3.
The No. 1 doubles duo of Carrie Slabaugh and Holly Stogsdill topped Kelsey Ball and Kathy Eagleson 6-2, 6-4. Triton completed the shutout as Cassie Irons and Michal Scherer-Berry won over Brittany Riffle and Morgan Conliff 6-1, 7-5 at No. 2 doubles.
Triton improves to 1-1, while Valley is 0-1.
Valley posted a 5-0 win in junior varsity action.
Softball Team Rolls Along
The undefeated Triton softball team rolled right along Wednesday.
The Trojans posted a 12-0 win in five innings at Tippecanoe Valley.
Triton outhit the hosts 14-3 in the win to improve to 4-0 on the season. Halie Zimmerman led the offense for the Trojans with a pair of hits, including a double, to go with three RBI.
The quartet of Krystal Sellers, Megan Berger, Hannah Jennings and Lillie Berger each had a double for Triton in the win.
Brycelyn Garbison notched the pitching win as she and Mallorie Jennings combined on a three-hitter with eight strikeouts.
Danielle Adams had two hits to lead Valley.
Triton (4-0) hosts Wawasee Saturday. Valley (0-2) hosts Winamac Thursday.
