Mary Margaret Welge, 71, of Warsaw, Ind. passed away on Monday, Sept. 8, 2014 at St. Joseph Hospital in Fort Wayne, Ind.
She was born on Nov. 5, 1942, in Marion, Ind., to Glen Robert and Cleoda Ruth (Sprinkle) Boxell. She graduated in 1960 from Marion High School; attended Indiana University in Bloomington and then graduated in 1964 from Ball State University in Muncie, Ind., with her bachelors degree and later received her master’s degree from Ball State. She was married on June 11, 1966, in Marion, Ind., to Fred J. Welge who survives.
She retired in 2003 after 25 years as a teacher for Blackford County School Corporation where she taught fifth grade, remedial reading and served as a swimming instructor. She formerly taught at Connersville Elementary and Eaton Elementary Schools and moved to the Warsaw area in 2003 from Albany, Ind., but spent summers here most of her life.
She formerly attended the First Christian Church in Marion, was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, enjoyed traveling and loved her family.
She is survived by her husband; daughter: Cynthia Elaine (Daniel) Barfield, Newburgh, Ind.; two sons: Eric Case (Darlene Gatlin) Welge, Tallahassee, Fla.; and Martin Randal (Rebecca) Welge, St. Louis, Mo.; four grandchildren: Andrew and Elijah Barfield; and Simon and Max Welge; two sisters: Marietta Showalter, Leesburg, Ind.; Glenna (Ronald) Bishop of Cheboygan, Mich.
She was preceded in death by her parents and sister: Ruth Shelley.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 13, at Owen Family Funeral Home, SR 13 and CR 500 N., North Webster. Funeral services will follow at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 13, in the funeral home with Pastor Tim Wallace officiating. Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 15, in the Lancaster Cemetery.
