Emergency personnel responded to a gas leak reported on the west side of Canal Street in Winona Lake. According to Kosciusko County Dispatch, the gas leak has been contained at this time.

Winona Lake Fire Department and NIPSCO were called to the scene with Warsaw Fire Department called later for assistance. A strong gaseous odor in The Village at Winona Lake was reported.

Restaurants across the canal such as Cerulean and Light Rail Cafe were reportedly evacuated as a result of the gas leak. Kosciusko County Dispatch confirmed that NISPCO has requested the evacuation of area restaurants and some neighboring houses.

According to a representative with NIPSCO a piece of equipment struck the gas line.
