Verna L. Torpy, 66, Silver Lake, Ind., passed away at 6:10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 29, 2014, in her residence.
She was born Sept. 30, 1947, in Waco, Texas, to Joseph C. and Minnie Leona (Markle) Nawara.
On Jan. 28, 1977, she married Max E. Torpy. He survives.
She graduated from Lamar Consolidated High School, Rosenburg, Texas in 1965.
Torpy worked in many financial institutions and retired from the loan operation department at Lake City Bank, Warsaw, in 2010. She enjoyed spending time with her family, quilting, reading and collecting notebooks.
Verna was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Wabash. She was member of the Lady’s Guild at her church that made quilts for babies and veterans and a member of a ladies home-ec club.
Additional survivors include: one son, Bret (Ann) Torpy, Burket; one daughter, Shannon M. (Greg) Brazo, Burket; five grandchildren, ShaNell, Alexis and Morgan Brazo and Raechel and Jaxon Torpy; one brother, James (Janie) Nawara, New Ulm, Texas.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Nila Miller and Bettye Meyer.
Family and friends may call from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 3, at Zion Lutheran Church, 173 Hale Drive, Wabash, followed by services at 1 p.m. Rev. Jeremy Yeadon will officiate.
Burial will be in Funk Cemetery, Bippus..
