The Notre Dame women’s basketball team will face a familiar foe in the Final Four.
The No. 2 and undefeated Irish will play ACC opponent Maryland on Sunday in Nashville.
Maryland defeated Louisville 76-73 Tuesday night to advance. Notre Dame (36-0) defeated Maryland (28-6) in a regular-season meeting at Maryland on Jan. 27.
Notre Dame defeated Baylor 88-69 Monday night to earn its fourth straight trip to the Final Four. The win came with a heavy price, however, as 6-3 senior forward Natalie Achonwa suffered a knee injury. Achonwa, who averaged 20 points and almost 10 rebounds in four NCAA tourney wins, will not play again this season.
The Notre Dame-Maryland game tips-off at 6:30 p.m. Sunday. The second semifinal pits No. 1 and undefeated UConn (38-0) versus Stanford (33-3). Stanford beat North Carolina 74-65 Tuesday night.
The national championship game is April 8.
