UPDATE: Train v. SUV

IMG_3932A 10-year-old Pierceton girl has undergone one surgery with a second one scheduled to repair leg injuries sustained in a collision with the SUV she was riding in and a train.

The accident happened at Market and Hickory streets in Warsaw at 1:56 p.m. Saturday. According to Kelsie E. Music, 20, of Warsaw, she was driving the 2002 Chevrolet Avalanche that crossed in front of the train. Music told police her 2-year-old baby in the back seat began crying. Music looked in the rear view mirror at the baby, and did not see or hear the southbound train.

Alissa Music, 10, of Pierceton, was airlifted and is undergoing treatment for a serious leg injury in a Fort Wayne hospital. The girl was in the back passenger side seat that took the brunt of the collision.

Also in the vehicle was Alexis Music, 12, of Pierceton, who complained of chest pain, and the toddler, Ruby Music who suffered minor facial bleeding. Kelsie Music complained of body pain.

The Norfolk Southern Train was carrying 3 engines and 48 cars and was traveling at a speed of 21 mph at the time of the accident. The Market Street crossing does not have crossing gates, but is equipped with flashing lights.
