Robert B. Dhonau, Jr., 59, of Ligonier, Ind., passed away on Aug. 23, 2014, in Goshen, Ind.
He was born on Jan. 2, 1955, in Oak Park, Ill., to Robert and Martha (Albers) Dhonau. Rob was raised by his mother and his step-father, Joe Miller. He graduated from West Noble High School in 1975.
He was in the Boy Scouts growing up. He was an industrial maintenance man in local factories. He spent 22 years as a volunteer on the Ligonier Fire Dept. and was an EMT/First Responder. He worked in Larry Overmyer’s body shop in Ligonier for many years. He loved his dogs and cats, and made them breakfast and cookies. He loved gardening, hunting and fishing. His children have fond memories of Rob teaching them to fish. He had a special talent for woodworking. He enjoyed going back to the Chicago area and visiting various suburbs.
He is survived by his children: Renee (Paul) Ruckman, North Manchester, Ind.; Danielle (Dustin) Combs, Wawaka, Ind.; Rachelle (Roland) Wildman, Rome City, Ind.; Pete Dhonau, Fort Wayne, Ind.; Katie Dhonau, Fort Wayne; nine grandchildren; a sister: Susan Ritchie, Ligonier, Ind.; and his only niece: Jennifer (Michael) Slone, Cromwell, Ind.; and two great-nieces.
Rob was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will take place from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 27, at Yeager Funeral Home, 1589 Lincolnway South, Ligonier, IN 46767. A memorial service will be at a later date. A cremation committal will take place at Legacy Cremation & Remembrance Center.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the family c/o Yeager Funeral Home.
