Dean Lavon Sloop, 64, of North Manchester, Ind., passed away peacefully in his sleep at 4:58 a.m., Tuesday, Aug. 12, 2014, at his home.

He was born Feb. 21, 1950, in Wabash, Ind., to Russell Sloop and Esther (Newman) Sloop Davis. Dean was a 1968 graduate of Wabash High School, and received his B.A. Degree from Indiana University. He married Joyce Gaby in Fort Wayne, Ind., on Feb. 20, 1971.

Dean retired as the manager and regional vice president of the Wabash Ridge Napa Store after 35 years. He enjoyed working, mushroom hunting, was an avid Purdue Basketball fan, and especially loved spending time with his family and grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife; three children: Andrew Sloop, North Manchester, Ind.; Laura (Jeff) Henzl, West Lafayette, Ind.; Aaron Sloop, North Manchester; three grandchildren: Brandon Sloop, North Manchester; Owen Henzl and Landon Henzl, both of West Lafayette.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister: Wanda Kay Sloop; and half-brother: Robert Sloop.

Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 15, at Grandstaff-Hentgen Bender Chapel, 207 W. Main St., North Manchester. Funeral services will be private. Burial will be in Roann Community Cemetery.

Preferred memorial is Wabash-Miami Home Healthcare and Hospice.
