Verteramo, Joseph, Jr.Joseph James ‘Jody’ Verteramo, Jr., 57, of Austin, Texas, passed away at 10:40 a.m. Tuesday, July 29, 2014, in his residence.

He was born Nov. 6, 1956, in Brownsville, Texas to Joseph James Verteramo, Sr. and Gloria (Egly) Verteramo. He was a 1975 graduate of Peru High School and also received an associate degree at the University of Texas.

He entered the United States Air Force Jan. 27, 1976, in San Antonio, Texas. A senior airman, Joseph James Verteramo, Jr. was honorably discharged June 5, 1979, from Bergstrom Air Force Base, Texas. He lived most of his life in Texas, and loved teaching school and reading. He really enjoyed helping people and was an avid writer who loved his family.

He is survived by his daughter: Teresa M. Verteramo, Warsaw, Ind.; his parents; sister: Cristina Campbell, Fort Wayne, Ind.; brother: John M. Verteramo, Elkhart, Ind.; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by paternal grandparents: Joseph and Agnes Verteramo; and maternal grandparents: Victor and Harriett Egly.

Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 16, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 16, at the church with father Phil DeVolder of the church officiating. Military honors will be conducted by Warsaw’s American Legion Post #49 and VFW Post #1126. Burial will take place in Oakhill Cemetery, Plymouth, Ind.
