Gwendolyn Jane Bowers Clark, 87, passed away Sunday, Aug. 10, 2014.
Gwendolyn was born May 13, 1927, to Floyd and Vina Bowers, the second of three children. She was born and raised in Mansfield, Ohio, and was a mother, nurse, naturalist, voracious reader and quilter.
Following graduation from Mansfield Senior High in 1945, Gwen enrolled in nurses training shortly before the end of World War II. She graduated from Mansfield General Hospital School of Nursing in 1947. The 50 years of devoted service to the nurse’s call gave Gwen her staunch attitude to the world of health and healing. She remembered by all as a caring and strong woman.
In 2013, Grandma was asked to write her autobiography in six words and this is what she wrote, “From Lindbergh to Mars! Goodnight Nurse!”
She is survived by five a stepson: Robert (Tracy), Cardington, Ohio; three sons: Douglas, (Freda) Marengo, Ohio; Roger (Susan), Trenton, Ohio; and Brian (Joan), Brick, New Jersey; and one daughter: Brenda (David) Anweiler, Mentone, Ind.; a sister: Loretta Miller, Springfield, Ohio; and a sister-in-law: Norma Bowers, Northport, Fla.; 14 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; a multitude of loved cousins, nieces, nephews, friends and especially her dear Twisted Sisters.
Gwen is preceded in death by her parents; her brother: Floyd Jr.; and her step-grandson: Myron Clark.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 23, in Mulberry Street Methodist Church, Mount Vernon, Ohio.
McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw, was entrusted with arrangements.
