Indiana Authors Offer Popular Books

Nominations for the 2014 Indiana Authors Award conclude this Friday, March 21. The winners will have lived in Indiana for 5 years and be alive and willing to attend the winners dinner in October.

Last year’s awards bring attention to Kelsey Timmerman from Muncie, who is a world traveler and the author of Where am I Eating? and Where am I Wearing? Mike Mullin won the Emerging Author award for his new distopian books, Ashfall and Ashen Winter. Stop by the Syracuse Library for these and many other books written by local authors and nationally known and famous Indiana writers.

The Fault in Our Stars is coming to the movies in June, but the book is available now. Nationally known, John Green is a Youtube super-star and famous Indianapolis young adult author. Suzanne Collins, who has roots in North Webster, is the popular author of The Hunger Games and Gregor the Overlander books. Emerging author

Mike Mullin sums up the literary environment in Indiana saying, “The books that taught me how to write were checked out from my local library. Without Indiana’s libraries, there wouldn’t be any Indiana authors.”

Is it a surprise that there are so many Indiana authors when the state of Indiana has a well-established library system?

Using Scrap Yarn
Social knitting and crocheting groups are a wonderful way to see the use of different yarns in various projects. String Theory, the social fiber group, is meeting 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, March 22. Drop-in for help or to share ideas. Participants can try out a crochet-loom knit-spool for handy ways to make use of small amounts of yarn. Hot drinks are provided until the temperature is over 70 degrees.

The library can be contacted at 574-457-3022.
