Irene Rose Kahler, 78, of Warsaw, Ind., passed away at 4:40 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2014, at Select Hospital, Fort Wayne, Ind.
She was born Sept. 19, 1935, in Warsaw, to Merle and Ruth (Bennett) Riggens. She was a 1953 graduate of Warsaw High School, and married Douglas D. Kahler on Oct. 5, 1960. Irene was a lifetime resident of Warsaw.
She was a homemaker and worked as a machinist at Warsaw Orthopedics for 10 years. Her memberships included the Warsaw Moose Lodge. She enjoyed quilting, bowling, gardening, canning and fishing.
Irene loved horses, enjoyed the water and was an excellent swimmer; she was a hard worker, generous to a fault, and a loving mother and grandmother.
She is survived by four daughters: Lucinda L. Kahler, Warsaw; Ruth (David) Mast, Nappanee, Ind.; Kasey LaRue, Warsaw; and Kristal (Greg) Prater, North Webster, Ind.; a son: Douglas C. Kahler, Carbondale, Ill.; seven grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and a sister: Thelma “Pud” Parker, North Webster.
She was preceded in death by her husband: Douglas D. Kahler; two brothers: Kenneth “Bud” Riggens and Eddie Joe Riggens; and a sister: Merlene “Butchie” Blue.
Visitation is from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 9, at Titus Funeral Home, 2000 E. Sheridan St., Warsaw. Her funeral will immediately follow at 11 a.m. in the funeral home with Pastor Norm Reimer, Nappanee Missionary Church, Nappanee, Ind., officiating. Burial is in Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw.
