Leiter, RichardRichard T. “Dick” Leiter, 86, of Warsaw, Ind., passed away Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2014, at Miller’s Merry Manor in Warsaw.

He was born Dec. 5, 1927, in South Bend, Ind., to J.D. and Bessie Mae (Crist) Leiter. He graduated in 1945 from Sidney High School and entered the United States Army on March 30, 1946, at Camp Atterbury, Ind. Tec 5 Richard T. Leiter was honorably discharged Aug. 12, 1947, in Fort Lawton, Wash.

On Aug. 4, 1950, he married Josephine L. Holloway in Warsaw.

Richard worked as a truck driver for Tinkey Oil Company for 19 years, retiring in 2001. He was also a lifetime farmer and formerly owned and operated Leiter’s Junkyard and Leiter Donut Wagon in the 1950s.

He enjoyed bowling, was a builder, owner and driver of stock cars in the 1950s and was inducted into the 2014 Warsaw Speedway Hall of Fame.

Richard is survived by three sons: Tommy Leiter, Warsaw; Chuck Leiter, Warsaw; and Terry Leiter, Brooksville, Fla.; a foster daughter: Ruth (Jim) Guffy, Warsaw; a brother: David (Jackie) Leiter, Etna Green, Ind.; two sisters: Phyllis Forbes, Wabash, Ind.; and Norma Moyer, Akron, Ind.; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife: Josephine L. Leiter; a son: Eddie Leiter; a sister: Maxine Hughes; and a brother: Robert Leiter.

Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 7, at Titus Funeral Home, 2000 E. Sheridan St., Warsaw. The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 8, at the funeral home with Pastor Rick Cooper, Touch of Life Church, Warsaw. Military honors will be conducted by Warsaw’s American Legion Post #49 and VFW Post #1126. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw.
