Russell L. Huff, 95, of Nappanee, Ind., passed away at 1:25 a.m. Monday, July 21, 2014, in the Heritage House.

He was born May 27, 1919, in Nappanee to Oliver and Edith (Haney) Huff. He was an area lifetime resident, and he and his wife, Mildred, had spent many winters in the Okeechobee and Sebring, Fla., areas.

He was a 1937 graduate of Madison Township High School. He was a World War II Army Air Corp veteran, serving in the South Pacific. He worked at Bendix in South Bend, Ind., all his life.

Russell was a member of the Nappanee American Legion. He took a helicopter ride at the age of 90. He loved to hunt and fish, especially on his Minnesota fishing trips.

He married Mildred Klopenstein on June 16, 1946. She preceded in death on June 19, 2013.

Surviving are his sons: Russell John (Jill) Huff, Wilber, Wash.; and Brian (Anna) Huff, Nappanee; grandchildren: John (Kym) Huff, Tammi Clampffer, Jennifer Dieatric, Cobi (Dwayne) Ray, Toni (Brent) Warren, Mandi (Joe) English; 12 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; a brother: DeVoe Huff, Nappanee; and sisters: Margret Chandler, Elkhart, Ind.; and Martha (Leroy) Love, Nappanee.

He was preceded in death by a grandson; brothers: Wayne, Stanley and Lloyd “Phil” Huff; and a sister: Esther Roth.

Visitation is from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, July 25, at Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home, Nappanee. The funeral service will take place at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July in the funeral home. Pastor Norm Reimer will officiate. Burial will follow at Leesburg Cemetery with military graveside services performed by the Nappanee American Legion.

Memorial contributions may be given to the Nappanee American Legion or to the Elkhart County Hospice.
