OI1706231270_HeadshotGeorge R. Guyas, 83, of Syracuse, Ind., passed away at 5:50 p.m. on Saturday, July 19, 2014, at Miller’s Merry Manor in Syracuse.

He was born on Dec. 11, 1930, in Defiance, Ohio, to Joseph G. and Winona Marie (Gloor) Guyas. 

He grew up in Ohio, attended public schools there, and moved to Knapp Lake in 1953 from Ohio. He was married on Nov. 12, 1955, in Kimmell, Ind., to Sharon R. Snowberger, who survives.

He lived for many years in Ligonier, Ind., before moving to Syracuse. He was the former co-owner / operator of Macy’s Wawasee Slip in Syracuse from 1954 until his retirement in 2000.

He is survived by his wife: Sharon Guyas, Syracuse; a daughter: Tina (Phil) Ball, Ligonier; two sons: Jeff (Peggy) Guyas, Syracuse; and Greg (Corine) Guyas, Summerfield, Fla.; five grandchildren: Jeremiah (Rhoda) Ball, Olivia (Jonathan) Kline, Joel (Natalie) Guyas, Tyler Guyas and Justin Guyas; three great-grandchildren: Audrey Kline, Juliette Ball and Colten Kline; two sisters: Margaret (Darwin) Hursey, Cisco, Ill.; and Donna Pepple of Ligonier. 

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother: Bill Guyas. 

Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, July 25, at Owen Family Funeral Home, 1001 S. Huntington St., Syracuse, and 1 hour prior to services on Saturday at the funeral home. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 26, at the funeral home. Burial will follow in the Sparta Cemetery in Kimmell, Ind.
