David RothDavid R. Roth, 95, North Manchester, Ind., died at 4:45 p.m. Wednesday, July 16, 2014, in Peabody Retirement Community, North Manchester.

He was born March 28, 1919, in Fort Wayne, Ind., to Dr. Roy and Elsie (Regedanz) Roth. He graduated from Central High School, North Manchester, with the class of 1937. On June 20, 1942, he married Mildred L. Emerick. David served in the US Air Force. A bombardier on a B-24 Liberator during WWII, his plane was shot down near Innsbruck, Austria following which he was interned in a German hospital and POW camps for 11 months.

He retired from the US Postal Service in 1977 after 29 years of service. He was a member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, North Manchester; a 73 year member and Past Master of Deming Lodge #88 F & AM, member and Past Worthy Patron of Ivy Chapter #69 Order of Eastern Star; served 10 years as a committee member of the Boys Scouts Troop No. 475 all at North Manchester, IN. He was a member of the Laketon American Legion Post #402, York Rite Bodies, Peru, Ind.; Mizpah Temple, Fort Wayne, Ind.; member Izaac Walton League; charter member of the former JayCee’s Club and charter member of the former VFW Post, North Manchester, Ind. He was also a member of D.A.V. Post, Goshen, Ind., and a member of AXPOW.

David is survived by his wife; two sons: Thomas A. (Janet) Roth, Dewart Lake, Ind.; and Steven L. (Billie) Roth, Rossville, Ind.; one brother: Benjamin Roth, Fort Pierce, Fla.; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one son: Jerry L. Roth; one daughter: Judith A. Roth; and two brothers: Thomas Roth and James Roth.

Visitation will be held from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Monday, July 21, at McKee Mortuary, 1401 SR 114 W, North Manchester. Masonic service will be at 3 p.m. Monday, July 21, with funeral service to follow at McKee Mortuary. Reverend James Lund will officiate. Burial will be at a later date in Oaklawn Cemetery, North Manchester.
