897_0000173828Kathryn Agnes Leffel, 93, of Larwill, Ind., passed away at 5 a.m. Monday, July 14, 2014, at Mason Health & Rehab, Warsaw, Ind., where she had been a resident since March. 

She was born April 8, 1921, near Raber, Ind., a daughter of Millard and Goldia Agnes (Conner) Kyler. Her formative years were spent in Jefferson Township. She completed her education at Jefferson Center High School. 

On April 26, 1940, she married Robert S. Leffel in Fort Wayne, Ind., moving to Larwill after a short period.

Kathryn made her home in Larwill for 69 years where the neighborhood children knew her home and front porch were always open. Her charitable work included commodity distribution in Larwill and tornado relief in various areas.

A member of one of the first 4-H clubs, she served later as a 4-H leader for 18 years. She was the Whitley County Senior Queen and was named Citizen of the Year in Larwill in 2007.

A member of the Larwill Lions Club, she served with her husband as Lion missionaries in Honduras and also as president of Larwill Lions Club. They both assisted in the building of Kids Dreamland in Columbia City. The Leffel and Georgia Lock families saved and stored the pictures of the senior classes at Larwill High School, which are now on display at Larwill Community Building. A member of Larwill United Methodist Church, she was a Bible School teacher and nursery school teacher. Kathryn also assisted with Boy Scouts and was past president of the Evening Bells Extension Homemakers Club. 

She is survived by two children: William Leffel, Columbia City, Ind.; and Linda (James) Stroup, Pierceton, Ind.; a foster daughter: Janet (Randy) Grepke, Fort Wayne; two sons-in-law: Ralph Fitch and Mike Rogers, both of Larwill; three grandchildren: Katrina (John) Osterman, Larwill; Katti (Randy) Sneed, Fairmount, Ind.; and Andi (Patricia) Stroup, Warsaw; three foster grandchildren: Danial Rogers, Pierceton; Janice (John) Bingham, Pierceton; and Amy Rogers, Columbia City; 11 great-grandchildren; and two foster great-grandchildren. 

She was preceded in death by her husband; a son: Kenneth Dale Leffel; a daughter: Joellen Fitch; a foster daughter: Sara Rogers; and a brother: Kendall Kyler. 

Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. Friday, July 18, at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City. The funeral service will follows at 2 p.m. Friday in the funeral home. Burial will be in South Whitley Cemetery. 

Preferred memorials are to the final expense account payable to Smith & Sons Funeral Home or Larwill Lions Club.
