Eugene C. Brown, 86, of Warsaw, Ind., passed away at 1:30 p.m. Monday, July 7, 2014, in Kosciusko Community Hospital.
On Jan. 31, 1928, he was born in Warsaw to Everett and Myrtle (Lynch) Brown. In 1952, he was united in marriage to Irene Franchitto in Boston, Mass. She preceded him in death on Oct. 27, 1998.
A lifetime resident of Kosciusko County, Eugene served our country honorably in the U.S. Army during World War II as a PFC with the 8th Army in the Asiatic Pacific Theater from 1946 to 1947. He began work for the Warsaw Police Department in 1957, serving for 22 years and retiring as Captain in 1979. He also held the rank of Detective Sergeant and Detective Lieutenant then Captain. He was a probation officer for 18 years, retiring as Chief Probation Officer. He also worked for the Kosciusko County Sheriff Department as a transport driver from 1997 to 2000.
Eugene was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Warsaw, the Elks Club and the Fraternal Order of Police. He was a lifetime member of American Legion Post #49, Warsaw.
He is survived by three sons: Ed Brown, Warsaw; Joe Brown, Goshen, Ind.; and Louis “Bill” Brown, Demotte, Ind.; his daughter: Christine Slone, Warsaw; his sister: Mary Neff, Payne, Ohio; and 12 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by one daughter, one grandson and two sisters.
Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 10, in McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw. A Rosary will be said at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in the funeral chapel.
A funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Friday, July 11, at the funeral home with Reverend Roy Blake officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw, with military honors by American Legion Post #49, VFW Post #1126, Warsaw and Military Funeral Honor Guard.
