Aster Prntice (271x350)Aster Prentice, 94, of Winona Lake, Ind., passed away at 9:19 p.m. Tuesday, July 1, 2014, at Grace Village Health Care, Winona Lake.  

She was born Oct. 13, 1919, in Clinton, Ill., to Oliver Wendell and Ernestine (Hess) Derry. She graduated from Bethany High School, Bethany, Ill.; and Greenville College, Lewiston, Ill. She also studied in Brussels Belgium in preparation for mission work.

She did home ministry from 1945 to1948 in the Kentucky Mountains, from 1948 to 1960 was a missionary for the Free Methodist Church, Winona Lake serving in Burrundi, Africa. From 1960 to 1966 Aster was a school teacher and had her own private sewing service.

On June 16, 1966, she married Paul Prentice in Minneapolis, Minn. Aster was again going back to missionary work in Liberia, serving from 1967 to 1995, during this time in 1971 she became an ordained minister.

She was a member of the Winona Lake Free Methodist Church. She has been a member of the Association of Fundamental Ministers and Churches since 1971. She was a longtime volunteer for the Warsaw Biblical Gardens.

She is survived by a foster daughter: Jartu Schulterbrandt, U.S. Virgin Islands; and two nieces: Joyce (Gordon) Schneider and Marcia (Jeff) Euriech.

She was preceded in death by her husband, a brother and a sister.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, July 5, at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw, with the funeral service to follow at noon. Pastor Roland Kramer will officiate the services. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery, Decatur, Ill.
