Back for a second time before the North Webster Town Council Tuesday evening was Jay Rigdon, Ward Lane resident and attorney. He pointed out, through a typographical error, the ordinance vacating a part of Ward Lane passed at last month’s meeting had been incorrectly recorded in the Kosciusko County Auditor’s Office and on the GIS. Therefore, the strip of land has not yet been vacated. (See related)

As it stands now, it does not allow for the exit of buses, trucks, other vehicles and emergency equipment from the location on the north side of the North Webster Church of God that was presented to the council last month. Rigdon suggested passing a corrected ordinance and town attorney Jack Birch agreed. The council concurred, approving a corrected ordinance that remedied the error. Birch will follow up on the vacation.

The council agreed to hire Amy Miller as a grant writer for the improvements required by the Indiana Department of Environmental Management to the wastewater treatment system. This is separate and apart from the expenses Knapp Lake Regional Sewer District will accrue and pay if and when it hooks into the North Webster system. A meeting with representatives from Knapp Lake RSD is scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday at the North Webster Community Center to work out more details on that project.

An entirely different meeting to discuss sewer rate recommendations from the London Witte rate study will be held 6 p.m. Tuesday, March 4, also at the NWCC. Bonnie Mann of London Witte explained, if the sewer billing is divided between those living in the town limits and those not, a suggested rate of about $1 more for in town and $3 more for out-of-town users for each billing will be proposed. This was being proposed because more work is done on the out of town sewer system. Instead of about $38 per billing, users in town will pay $39 and those outside town limits will pay $41. A complete presentation will be made at the March 4 meeting.

The street department was given accolades for keeping the streets plowed during the snows. Utilities Manager Mike Noe was instructed to get a second bid for the electric work on the new pole barn being built to house street department equipment.

The next regular meeting of the council will be 6 p.m. Tuesday, March 18, in the party room of the NWCC, 301 N. Main St.
