897_0000171927Arlo H. Knouff, 79, of southwest Noble County, Ind., passed away at 2:10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 15, 2014, at Miller Merry Manor, Columbia City, Ind., where he had been a resident for the past 2 weeks.

He was born Feb. 22, 1934, in Kosciusko County, Ind., a son of Howard and Ora (Grimes) Knouff. He graduated from Warsaw High School and was Salutatorian of Purdue University School of Engineering. On June 25, 1955, he was united in marriage to Lois June Ummel.

They made their home in Warsaw, Ind., until the early 1960s when they moved to Long Beach, Calif., where Arlo worked for Douglas Aircraft. In 1963 they moved St. Louis, Mo., and he began working for McDonald Aircraft until his retirement in 1991 with nearly 30 years of service as a mechanical engineer for McDonald-Douglas.

He is survived by his wife; three children: Brenda Ward, Houston Mo.; Bruce Knouff, Warsaw; Roger Knouff, Tempe Ariz.; two granddaughters: Elizabeth Ward Allen and Hailey Knouff; a brother: Rollin Knouff Warsaw; and two sisters: Rachel Turner and Dolores ‘Pinky’ Knouff, both of Warsaw.

He was preceded in death by three sisters; Retha Knouff, Reba VanGundy and LaRita Cook; and  a brother: Lester Knouff.

The visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 18, at Smith and Sons Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 19, at the funeral home. Burial will be in Salem Cemetery, Wilmot.
